The National Park Biogradska gora ranges over an area of 5.400 ha of the mountain Bjelasica. Special tourist value is one of three remaining rainforests in Europe and Biogradsko jezero (the lake of Biograd). Within the complex, the beech forest is dominated, with the presence of sycamore, ash, and elm all around the lake of Biograd.Some trees are exceeding more then 500 years old, reaching the heights up to 60 m.
You can also find 65 species of trees, 25 plant communities and 34 endemic plants in this national park. Biogradsko jezero is the largest and most famous lake on Bjelasica mountain.
Biogradsko jezero is the most beautiful mountain lake in Montenegro, which enters the biggest environmental values and the most attractive tourist motives. It is situated at an altitude of 1094 m, on the right side of the road Kolasin – Mojkovac, with which it is linked with 4 km long road. Biogradsko jezero is a glacial origin. The surface area of the lake is 228,500 m2 at the highest water level, with maximum depth of 12.1 m. The lake of Biograd with the National park Biogradska gora are the most attractive and visited part of the National Park. This is the most important natural eco-resort in Montenegro. The hiking trials, national restaurant, parking space and space for grilling and socializing are all around the lake. You have a possibility to rent a small wooden boats for cruising over the lake or buy some souvenirs with various motives from Bjelasica, National Park Biogradska Gora or Montenegro, as well, and various tourist maps in order to easily move through the National Park and Bjelasica.
